MATH UNIT 1:  Understanding Numbers 1-10
The big idea for unit 1 is Counting and Cardinality. We will be working on counting and cardinality for numbers 1-10. The students will be using objects and drawings to represent numbers.   We will be practicing writing the numbers correctly. Addition and subtraction is introduced and numbers through 10 are compared. The students will also learn to identify circles, squares and rectangles and use their attributes to sort and compare two-dimensional shapes.

Your child will be using number tiles and square inch tiles to help develop an understanding of the structures for quantity.  Look for your home copy of these tiles so that you can do similar activities with your child.
Your child will be using comparing mats to compare two numbers.  By doing this they can see that 4 is more than 3 or 3 is fewer than 4.
As parents and educators come together, your child will achieve in math!
